Rolfing Melbourne
Rolfing Structural Integration in Melbourne
Most people who book a Rolfing session have already had the painful area treated, sometimes many times. It eased for a while, or it did not change much, and the same problem came back in the same shape.
Rolfing Structural Integration takes a wider view. Tension and restriction in one region can relate to demands somewhere else, so the work looks at how your whole body is organised and how load moves through it, not only at the place that hurts.
Who This Suits
You may find this useful if:
- muscular tension or stiffness keeps returning
- your discomfort follows a familiar pattern you can predict
- your movement feels restricted or uneven on one side
- you have been told your posture is part of the problem, but not what to do about it
- treatment aimed at the painful area has not held
- you want to move with greater ease and understand your own body better
The work is directed at how your body moves, adapts and distributes load rather than at achieving an ideal posture.
Who You Would Be Seeing
Nicholas Barbousas has practised Rolfing Structural Integration for more than 30 years. Alongside the clinic, he has taught postgraduate manual therapy for 27 years, including convening a university myofascial release program.
The reasoning he teaches to other practitioners is the reasoning he uses in the treatment room.
What Happens in a Session
The first appointment begins with a conversation about your history and what you are hoping to change, followed by assessment of your posture and movement. Nick will explain what he is seeing, and why it may be relevant to your problem, before any hands-on work begins.
Observations from posture and movement are not diagnoses and are not treated as proof of cause. They indicate what is worth testing. Treatment addresses what the testing supports, and a re-check at the end of the session shows what has actually changed.
Sessions run for 60 minutes. There is no set number and nothing to commit to beyond the first appointment. Some people come once for a specific problem, others continue because they want to build on what changed, and you decide as you go.
